News for Travellers

14 Feb

Thought I let my readers who are travellers at heart read some travellers’ news and have provided some links to some very interesting articles about travelling. I found some interesting articles on duty free shopping, some travel ideas for celebration Darwin’s 200th anniversary. Also you might want to read about some of the most romantic vacation destinations, especially since it’s Valentine’s Day today. (Where do you take your sweetheart? And also, the bane of all long distance flight travellers – airplane food. I found another article on Miami, the coolest place in Florida for sure. For backpacking travellers on a budget, who would have believe it – “boutique hostels” for the stylish budget travellers.

What’s the deal with duty-free shopping?

For many travelers, duty-free is a luxurious enigma wrapped up in discounted Swiss chocolate and soaked in tax-free vodka. Duty-free goods are mostly sold inside international airport terminals, ferry stations, cruise ports and border stops.

Evolve your plans to mark Darwin’s 200th

British naturalist Charles Darwin shocked Victorian society when he suggested that humans evolved from animals over millions of years, and his theories still spark controversy. To mark the scientist’s 200th birthday, expedition organizers and museums are seizing the opportunity to look at Darwin’s evolutionary discoveries.

In-flight food: Heaven or hell on a tray?

The ‘crime scene cookies’, ‘baaji custard’ and ‘sponge shafts’ depicted in Oliver Beale’s letter of complaint to Virgin Atlantic struck a chord worldwide.

Miami’s unpretentious local flavor

The Miami area seems to be enjoyed most by people who live somewhere else. More often than not snowbirds, the yearly visitors who winter in South Florida, and other tourists appear to take over. But there are plenty of places that are beloved by locals and won’t cost you a fortune.

Six new boutique hostels

Forget everything you thought you knew about hostels. These six new spots come with designer credits, private and shared rooms, restaurants and some of the coolest furniture on the planet.

Hope you find these articles as interesting as I did.  And, if you’re planning to go somewhere soon, be sure to get your passport renewed or get one fast.  You’re nobody without a passport!

Your Miami Vacation – What to Do

25 Oct

Miami is such an exciting and fun place to visit that you’re not likely to run out of great things to do here. The amazing beaches, attractions, restaurants and clubs are seemingly endless!

Beaches

Head out to the Hollywood Beach Boardwalk. It’s a popular and great place for tourists. Do nothing but people watch, or hike, bike or rollerblade around the boardwalk. There are miles of great beaches as well as clubs, restaurants and pretty much something for everyone down here.

The beach at the Bill Baggs State Recreation Area on South Crandon Boulevard in Key Biscayne is Top 10 material. It’s been voted one of the best beaches in the United States. The area is known for its scenery and nature trails. You’ll find some interesting seafood eateries nearby.

Tourist Attractions

The Monkey Jungle puts a great twist on the conventional zoo approach. Here, it’s the humans that are in cages! You can watch the monkeys roam in a wildlife refuge while you stand in a cage and learn about these amazing animals.

You’ll find more than just birds at Parrot Island. Located on Watson Island, this attraction features trails and an Everglades habitat with wildlife native to Florida. You’ll find some snakes and alligators, but the main attraction is thousands of colourful parrots and flamingos. Try and see the one-of-a-kind bird show.

Restaurants & Nightlife

Miami is famed for its diverse cuisine. For strip mall casual style on SW 40th Street, but exceptional Chinese food that includes Dim Sum Sundays, the Tropical Chinese Restaurant may be the perfect choice. This place is usually crowded though, especially on weekends. Luckily, there is no shortage of great eateries all over Miami!

Set on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach is almost impossible to get into as it’s a popular hangout for the likes of Jamie Foxx. Still, you could try in advance to get on their guest list. If not, there are many other nightclubs in Miami you’re sure to love. The interesting thing about Set though is that it has no dance floor because everyone dances on tables and sofas!
